At Specialized Pharmacy, we recognize that each of our customers come to us with individual medication needs. We respect the privacy of each of our customer's personal information and understand the importance of keeping this information confidential and secure. We are committed to maintaining the privacy and security of our customers' personal information.

Specialized Pharmacy is a pharmacy fully licensed and operating under state and federal laws. The records Specialized Pharmacy creates and maintains related to patients and dispensing medication are medical records in compliance with the many state and federal laws that protect the privacy of those records. Specialized Pharmacy cannot and will not give, sell, trade, rent, disclose, loan or make available any identifiable personal information about its patients to any unauthorized third party without first receiving patient permission, except or unless the law requires us to do so. Consistent with privacy laws, personally identifiable information may be provided to patients' individual doctors or other health care providers, as well as to patients' insurance companies as a part of the billing process.

What is HIPAA?

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is meant to provide patients with an additional level of privacy and accountability in the healthcare services they receive from their providers. The privacy rule of HIPAA affects the way your doctor(s), pharmacy and other healthcare team members communicate and use your health information. HIPAA is meant to better protect your right to the privacy of your information.

We Honor Your Right to Privacy.

  • We will collect the minimum information necessary to bill insurance claims, provide quality pharmaceutical care and counseling and administrate market share programs. If we need to collect additional information about you, we will tell you what information is being collected, how, by whom, and for what purposes.
  • We limit access to personal information to only those persons who need to know that information to provide support services to our customers.
  • This information, along with other parts of your medical record, may be shared with your doctor to confirm your prescription, and certain information may be shared with your insurance company if necessary to process your claim(s).
  • We cannot and will not share personally identifiable information with other third parties without your consent. The personally identifiable information provide by Specialized Pharmacy or edited by you will only be used in the processing of your order and in the update of your personal profile.
  • Specialized Pharmacy may collect and share non-personal, aggregate statistical information regarding patient demographic patterns, compliance trends, and/or pharmaceutical sales with contract partners and sponsors. We are restricted by law from sharing this type of information in a manner that would enable a third party to determine individual patient identities.
  • All Specialized Pharmacy associates are trained on the importance of safeguarding personal patient information and must comply with our procedures and applicable laws.
  • We will give you options about how the personal information that you provide to us may be used. You may also at any time request not to receive educational materials or decline participation in pharmacy education and/or counseling programs.
  • You have the right to receive confidential communications from us by alternative means or at an alternative location.
  • You have the right to request that specific information not be disclosed to family members or friends who may be involved in your care. Your request must state the specific restriction requested and to whom you want the restriction to apply. We are not required to agree to a restriction that you may request, however we will try to accommodate your requests and behave accordingly.
  • You will have the opportunity to update your personal information that you have provided to us.
  • In most cases, you have the right to look at or receive a copy of health information about you. If you request copies, we will charge you only normal photocopy fees. You also have the right to receive a list of certain types of disclosures of your information that we have made.
  • If you believe that information in your record is incorrect, you have the right to request that we correct the existing information.
  • If you are concerned that we have violated your privacy rights, or you disagree with a decision we have made about access to your records, you may contact the person listed below. You may also send a written complaint to the US Department of Health and Human Services.
